My main inspiration for this picture was taken from some TSOL footage from the movie Suburbia, circa 1982:


It was actually a ton of fun to do something so unabashedly gothic, you know, vampires and all that. If I had time I'd do more illustrations like this (in the style if not the subject matter)- I really liked working on it and I'm 100% satisfied with how it turned out. It didn't even take me that long to do, I started it in the afternoon and was finished by evening, and I was able to still crank out 2 pages later that night.

So yeah. Happy Halloween you guys! I have the best costume... I'm gonna be a comic artist!!! YEAH!!! :T

24 Hour Comic People

What a fuckin week, I tell ya.

Going to Melissa DeJesus's house (the artist on Sokora Refugees for Tokyopop) for 24 hour comic day, although I won't be sticking to the rules, I will be working on American Virgin and East Coast Rising! My girls Vanessa Satone, Hwan Cho and Robin Ha are also going, and tomorrow after this fiasco is over we're gonna get manicures. It will be well deserved.

Lots of shit happened these last few days, both good and bad. I'm just glad to be going to hang see my friends today. Maybe I can talk about some of the good news later, but for now mum's the word. A girl has to have some secrets!

So I feel like I've been neglecting this blog, and I have a few important things I'd like to say on the subect of American Virgin, but I'll get to that next week. Real quick thank you to everyone who's kept on the series, thanks to Steve for being a fucking genius, and also... thans for me for being a genius too!!!! I've recieved a ton of emails concerning the announcement of the last issue being #23, so thank you guys! More on this in a few days.

Last night I had this dream that I did like 20 pages, and they all looked awesome. When I woke up I was so pumped but then I realized it was just a dream and I felt like kicking the shit out of someone!!! AAGH Why must you taunt me so!! Fists in the air!!

So SPX was awesome! The highlight was John G, who drove down from Cleveland and didn't even tell me. Fucking surprises!!! Awesome, it was cool hanging out again. I have a box full of goodies I haven't even looked at yet, it might take months for me to unpack all my books I'm so lazy about that shit. Thanks to everyone who came out and said hi, I met a lot of really cool people, and I drew a lot of sweet pictures of Yanni. Everybody wins!

Yeah SPX. For a 'small press' convention I spent a lot of time talking about Star Wars and early 90's comics. I must have told my story about meeting Jim Lee about 50 times, man he is so awesome. He drew me a picture of Gambit, I get excited just thinking about it.

The God-damn Gambit. Heh heh.

Some of you might have noticed I'm horrible at "con reports" so really I don't even try. Mostly I give shout outs but I'm too lazy for that right now! My dream ignited a burning rage deep in my soul!!! Im gonna do twenty fucking pages today!!! AAAAAAGHH

The Small Press Expo once again enters the comic atmosphere on it's yearly journey through the cosmos of time-space. So next week I'll have a table with Vanessa, Eve and Hwan at SPX in MD. Always a good time, it's two days long and we'll be cooped up in a hotel in the middle of nowhere with nothing but some paper and a bar (sounds like the Shining except not as scary I hope..) I'll be on driving duty which is always fun.

I'll have copies of Minis, Demo, American Virgin, East Coast Rising, Nebuli and 5. Anything else I'm missing? I might have buttons or something too. I'm debating weather or not I should bring some originals down, however I probably won't be doing any comissions at this convention. I'll probably still do sketches though. I'll have pages from East Coast Rising 2 since I'll be working on it while I'm down there, and if you'd like to see them feel free to ask! Lucky for me I enjoy making comics so it's not so bad. All work and no play doesn't necesserally make Becky a dull girl.

Who else will be at SPX this year? I know a few people who are going, anyone reading this?

Here's a quick East Coast Rising 2 update: I'm up to page 86. Not too shabby, although pages are slowing down mostly due to panels like these:


However I decided that instead of skimp on the art I'll just draw through it and put out a book which I believe is heads above the first one. I keep saying but I'm really happy with the improvement in this book, most of all on the story. I'll talk more about this later.

For now I'm gonna prep some more pages for tomorrow.

So here we are, Wednesday again! You know what that means! New comics? Yes. Also, I'm going out for wings with my girlfriends- a new routine I call leaving the house once a week! Maybe afterwords we'll do each other's nails and talk about boys and maybe they'll come to my apartment for a pillow fight!

Anyway, as some of you may or may not know I'll be a guest at 2008's Wonder con! This is a big deal for me. I spent a few minutes taking a decent photo for their press booklet, which isn't so bad once you get over the fact that you feel like an idiot for taking a photo of yourself in the first place, but the self-indulgence is kind of fun in the end and I couldn't drag Vanessa over to my place to do it for me since she was busy getting iced tea for her roommate Eve! Whatever you guys! I don't even want to talk about it! Here's the photo I ended up going with!! Yes! I have a sword on my wall!!!!Exclamation!!!!


Most of the pics I took were too blurry to use, and they all looked about the same as this one up top, except one where I look like a vampire!! HAHA, AWESOME??! Y/N

Alright you guys, I'm gonna go watch some of David Attenborough's Life of Mammals and finish up inks on page 81 of ECR!! LATER!!!
