2008: The Revenge of Demo

In case you didn't hear yet...

Or if you missed our panel at Wondercon...

With the scheduled re-release of the original Demo graphic novel at Vertigo in May and now the announcement of six new issues, I'm ready to jump into the new pages! There will be more info on this later, as we push onwards and begin the real work. For now I just hope everybody is as excited as I am.

Red Knight

More painter practice, second attempt, two hours, nothing special

Cold update: Mucus- 2, Becky- 1
D:

painter is kinda cool but sometimes the undo command doesn't work and it bugs me, plus i only know the shortcut for "brush" and everything else i actually have to click on (god forbid, right?) so i dunno. i like it but i can't imagine painting seriously in this program. Actually i've been itching to watercolor again, maybe after I get back from Wondercon I'll pick up some new brushes. It's been a few years since I've used watercolor and it used to be one of my favorite mediums to work in. What's happened to me? I'm sorry watercolor!

I'll also have some signings at both the DC and Tokyopop booths, they have me pretty busy at this convention. I have plans to hit up the Winchester House too, I'm a hundred percent excited about that!

Sketch 06: L, Death Note

I had this weird dream last night with Peter Jackson in it, and I was a serial kiler, and together we were fishing and ended up catching Jaws by the gill but he got away!!! I think I might have wanted to kill Peter too, or someone was after him because there was a time when we were in a crate and I asked (enigmaticly), "How does it feel to know that King Kong will be your last film?" There was also this weird potato head thing running around helping us fish, I was worried that he'd fall in the water.

The really weird thing is Vasilis and I both had dreams with Peter Jackson in them last night!! Creeptastic!

Other than that things have been less creepy IRL, I got this stupid throat cold I can't seem to kick, and my modem blew out and I was not in shape to brave the "wintery mix" (says weather.com) outside. Finally yesterday I went out so now I have internet again but the mucus is back in full force! Totally stupid if you ask me.

Let me pause for a second to tell the world how much I hate it when Weather.com uses the term Wintery Mix. Really what they mean is it's raining slush from the sky, but they had to find the most douchy way to say it. I'm surprised they didn't call it a "Winter Medly" or something. Winter a la King. Ugh, mucus save me!

Here's a sketch I did of L from Death Note. I can't get into the comics and I didn't like the movies, but I think L is kinda cute, what with his wiggly toes and little circles under his eyes.

Sketch 05: Conan

I was thiking yesterday of how I never draw in the computer because I can't get my brain to work around it, then Vasilis and I were looking up pictures of Grace Jones, then we watched a demo for a Conan game for PS3, and then I made this in photoshop:

It was still hard to think of anything. I just don't like drawing in the computer I guess, it comes out okay but it's the actual process of drawing on a screen that doesn't do anything for me, creatively.

That's it.

Operation: Fingertip

Today Vasilis and I made soup. Truthfully, he did most of the work. It came out really good, perfect for a cold, dank day! The excitement started when I reached in a drawer for a vegetable peeler.. A VEGETABLE PEELER.. and somehow my finger got stuck between the "blades" and it almost sliced the tip of my finger off. The really gross part came when I couldn't take my finger out from being wedged between the blades (a tiny space, I don't know how it even got in there. It's not like I was shoving my hand in the drawer or anything!) without digging the blade through the tip of my finger even further.

Finally I managed to mush my fingertip (the floppy skin part) back under and wedge my finger out from the peeler. Mind you, I've been using vegetable peelers my whole life and I've never encountered a problem. I never thought they were capable of such damage! I've got my finger (right, index) under wraps and all hydrogen peroxided up for good measure.

Soup was delicious, and my finger doesn't really hurt much, I guess since it was a sharp cut, but man I got a little nervous when I couldn't get my finger out from between the blades without slicing the tip of it off! Stupid carrots. I dunno if they're even worth it, I don't even like carrots that much. I suppose you could say I tolerate them.

The one thing I don't tolerate is insolent vegetable peelers! Curses! Here's a girl:

I also installed painter the other day, I've never used it before and with my awesome tablet I figured it might be nice to give it a try. I like it's compatability with photoshop, and it might be fun to try to do more serious coloring with it, however I still can't get myself to draw in the computer. For some reason I can never get my drawing bits to think while on the tablet; the only thing I can draw is a blank. I dunno how you kids to it, I draw the line at coloring! Heh, so many plays on the word draw.
